Our MISSION

The Haiti Medical Education (HME) Project, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, works in alliance with Haitian medical leadership, faculty and students to support and improve the medical education system in Haiti. Our organization was established by healthcare providers, academics and social activists after the 2010 earthquake, but we seek to do more than simply respond to the disaster, looking to aid in policy as well as handling short-term problems. We work towards restoring and building upon the infrastructure and curriculum of Haitian medical schools and teaching hospitals, and ensuring that the next generation of Haitian doctors and medical leaders are ready to care for Haiti.

what we do

Curriculum Development

Our work in curriculum development is based on what is currently available, but our aim is to produce clinicians, medical educations, and healthcare leaders that are trained to the highest standard of medical care and are able to practice to that standard.

Distance

Learning

Teleconferencing allows high-quality transmission from educators around the world, even with meager internet connectivity; numerous participants at various sites at one time; sharing of lecture slides; and recording of lectures for later viewing.

Continuing Medical Education

Medical school and other formal training teaches physicians how to care for patients, address societal needs, and be good colleagues (i.e., teaching, administration and leadership); the objective of CME is to maintain these professional standards.
